Made by a rare company Rolton of Chicago. Design: It features a brimless crown, typically made of fine felt, designed to \"tilt\" forward or to the side. Embellishment: The hat is dramatically accented with a large plume of vibrant orange feathers. Detailing: It often includes a ribbon bow at the side, from which the feathers originate. It has a stretchy band that goes in back to keep hat in place. Historical Context: Such elaborate headwear was popular during the 30s & 1940s, providing a bright contrast to wartime utility fashions. This hat was considered a higher end hat for this era. Similar vintage pieces have been attributed to high-end designers of the era. For example, a very similar 1930s style with large feather accents is part of the Lilly Daché collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. These hats were often handmade using traditional millinery techniques like hand-blocking on felt or buckram bases Size: 22. (This hat, mainly sits on top of your head so it would fit a variety of head sizes).
