MILLINERY CAPSULE 01 LOOK 09: 1940S TAUPE FELT HAT WITH 。This is a very creative black felt hat from the fashionable 1940s\'! The top is made into a flat, round shape attached to a band around the bottom where the head fits. The top of the hat is beautifully ruched into several round shapes. There are 2 felt bows at each side of the front. At the back there is a beautiful array of feathers in iridescent black/greenish colors. There is an elastic band attached to the inside to help keep the hat in place under the hair. Simply gorgeous! Ruching is a fashion design technique where fabric is gathered, pleated, or folded to create a textured, ripple-like effect. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials.
