Vintage 1940s 50s Natural Straw Hat Red Silk Rose. For Sale 。This is a stunning example of the millinery fashions of the day. The crown of this salmon color straw fedora is short, slanted towards the front, and slightly indented at the top. It is surrounded by a wide brim which is upturned at the edges. There is a matching color full veil, plus a feather trim in the same hues at the front. A tall, curled feather quill completes this beautiful look. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
